craigslist text not wrapping

Monday, May 29th, 2006

It was brought to our attention this past Friday that craigslist is doing something that causes text within HTML tables to not wrap, not just for us, but seemingly for everybody. This has affected some postlets users in regard to the description field, where the description text no longer wraps automatically. We tried explicitly stating the table width, the table row width, the table cell width, setting the nowrap attribute, and even a stylesheet, but none of them worked to wrap the text.

We’re still working on a workaround, but if anybody has any ideas or knows how to get this working, we’re open for tips. In the meantime, you can manually wrap your text by adding in line breaks when typing in your listing description.

vast.com added

Saturday, May 20th, 2006

We just added Vast to our list of distribution partners. Vast is a classifieds search engine (similar to Oodle) that currently indexes listings for cars, jobs and personals. Postlets cars & trucks listings are included now, and rentals and real estate should follow shortly.

color templates

Monday, May 8th, 2006

We noticed today that our colored templates don’t appear correctly when pasted into craigslist, for example black text on a black background. This is because craigslist is defaulting all text color to black. Don’t worry, we really don’t believe they’re doing this just because of us, but are doing this across the board to combat spammers. At any rate, since we’re a legitimate service, and we still want to offer color options for our users, we’ve come up with a solution. We’ve already implemented it for Real Estate postlets, and we’ll get to Rentals and Cars and Trucks soon.

May 9th – Rentals and Cars and Trucks done too.

login issues

Wednesday, May 3rd, 2006

We are currently experiencing technical problems authenticating users who signed up before 5/2 (try logging in to see if this is you). Before we ask you to request a temporary password, we need to dig further into the issue to try to get to the root cause. Sorry for the inconvenience, and please check back for updates.
